he voice is the most innately human of all musical instruments because it can express the full range of human emotions and life experiences. A musician’s goal is to commune and communicate with others through music, to move both listeners’ and performers’ spirits, and to leave them stirred and changed. This is the highest kind of calling because, as noted by Karl Paulnack, a musician is a kind of “therapist for the human soul” who never knows whose life might be affected by a musical performance. People sing to comfort, to mourn, to lift up, to pray, to rejoice.
